Blog post 1
My topic will be on gay marriage. I am picking this topic because it is a very controversial topic in our world today. It is legal in some states to marry someone of the same gender. However, many people still look down on that act. I hope to expand my knowledge of how different people feel about the topic and begin to hear more opinions from people outside of Pennsylvania. The ideal audience for my paper would be for the average American who is trying to figure out where they stand on this subject.

Hi Janelle! Glad you were able to get your blog up and running. Your assessment is right: for many, this is a controversial, heated debate. As you begin your research, consider ways you can narrow your research (to keep it manageable for the assignment). What aspect of this topic interests you most: the legal? the moral? the definition of marriage? These are just a few angles and can and should be narrowed down even more. As far as audience, "the average American" is a pretty vague audience because we are a diverse nation. Choose an audience that is more specific (by age, gender, season of life, etc) so that you can tailor your research to that audience and what they may want/need to know about this debate.
